Staying Hydrated On Campus

Water, water, water everywhere. Staying hydrated is very beneficial to you when walking back and forth between class. Throughout the day, you are losing water through respiration and your skin, and in order to stay healthy and alert, you need to replenish by drinking fluids. In order to get the best grades in your classes, remember to carry a bottle of water with you throughout the day. Instead of bringing a plastic, disposable bottle, be environmentally responsible, and use a reusable water bottle. Here are a couple of my favorite reusable water bottles:

  1. Hydro Flask - This stainless steel, double walled water bottle will keep your drinks cold for up to 24 hours. The stainless steel will keep your water tasting pure and fresh, unlike plastic water bottles that may give your water an off flavor. You can attached this water bottle to your backpack using a carabiner or PackNet. I use a 32 oz Hydro Flask. The weight of an empy 32 oz Hydro Flask is 15.7 ounces. It's not the lightest water bottle on the market, but when it comes to keeping your drinks cold, it's one of the best. When the Hydro Flask is filled with water, it tops out at 3 pounds 1 ounce. Keep the weight in mind when planning on attaching it to your backpack. If using a completely filled 32 ounce Hydro Flask, the PackNet may be your best bet for carrying the water bottle on your backpack. Keep in mind that the Hydro Flask is not dishwasher safe. To wash your Hydro Flask, use warm or hot, soapy water. If you want to protect your Hydro Flask, purchase an Onoola hydro flask sleeve. The Onoola sleeve fits a 32 or 40oz Hydro Flask, and it will protect the exterior from dents, dings and scratches. The sleeve weighs a light 5.1 ounces.

  2. Klean Kanteen - If you are not too concerned with keeping your drinks cold throughout the day, and you are looking for a lighter water bottle, try the stainless steel, single wall Klean Kanteen. The loop cap is perfect for attaching to the outside of your backpack. An empty 40 ounce Klean Kanteen weights 8.9 ounces. When the 40 ounce Klean Kanteen is filled with water, it tops out at 3 pounds 5.5 ounces. You can carry more water at almost the same weight as the smaller 32 ounce Hydro Flask. The stainless steal Klean Kanteen is dishwasher safe, so if you have a dishwasher, this water bottle is easier to clean.

Remember to hydrate throughout the day to keep your body healthy and your grades up. An environmentally conscientious way to carry water is to forget the plastic water bottles and use a reusable stainless steel water bottle. You won't have plastic chemicals leaching into your water, and your water will taste better.
